ORTHODOX EASTER TOUR
HIKE & PHOTOGRAPHY
4 – 11 April 2018
Day 1: 4 April
Arrival in Cluj Napoca, transfer to the accommodation in Botiza (3h and ½) in small wooden guesthouse with delicious home made and home grown produce (eggs, meat, milk from their own farm). Use this accommodation for 3 nights, breakfast, dinner at the accommodation. Lunches as picnic, provided by the host.
Day 2: 5 April:
Hike from Botiza to Ieud. 3 – 4hours hike to a Unesco heritage church, over rooling hills and beautiful views.
Day 3: 6 April:
Hike via Poienile Izei (also Unesco heritage church) and back to the accommodation.
Day 4: 7 April:
Hike, steam train or cultural visits.
Late after noon transfer to another accommodation, west Maramures, in Breb or Hoteni, for the next 4 nights.
EASTER NIGHT:
The most important church service for Easter is held midnight.
At the little church in the village, the Orthodox service starts midnight.
Day 5: 8 April, Sunday
EASTER DAY:
In the morning people return to the church to attend the FOOD Blessing.
People will stay after service to bless their food for the Easter.
They all put the baskets in the yard and the priest will read the service. It is a great moment to watch, very touching and seen best in Maramures.
Have the Easter Lunch with our hosts. Traditional food: lamb, red eggs and cozonac (the Easter cake).
Day 6: 9 April:
Drive over the mountain to Surdesti for the folklore festival, with traditional dancing and music (“Udatoriul de la Surdesti”).
Lunch to a restaurant. Return to the same accommodation. Dinner at our accommodation.
Day 7: 10 April:
Village and cultural sightseeing: Unesco heritage church of Desesti, the merry cemetery of Sapanta, the Memorial of political prisoniers of communism in Sighet.
Return to the same accommodation. Dinner at the accommodation.
Day 8: 11 April:
Transfer to Cluj Napoca for flight.

single supplement: 60 euro.
